Brian is an asset to the O&P industry because of his insight into the field not just as a clinician but as a business person. While many enter the field for personal reasons or enjoy this type of work as a way to help others, most lose sight of the need for a sharp business acuity, ability to think lean and have a futuristic approach to our field. Brian sees it from all of these angles making him an excellent leader, mentor and good friend.
I've known Brian for many years and saw him grow his Father's practice from one location to five. I saw a passion in Brian for the profession of Orthotics and Prosthetics and encouraged him to get involved at the Association level which he did. I never thought he would become as involved as quickly as he did. He became effective at grassroots lobbying for the profession because of his in-depth knowledge of Medicare policy and how this effects patients on a first hand basis. He then took this knowledge and gave back to his profession by teaching his colleges roper coding and documentation guidelines. The fact he made these commitments and continued to grow his practice at the same time is a testament to his ability to manage multiple responsibilities and to care about his patients, his employees and his colleges
Brian's strengths include a strong sense of the big picture with the long term in perspective. He is very focused and dedicated to his principles. His drive and energy seem to be never ending..
An important milestone for Orthocare Innovations for 2010 was the submittal of a CMS Code Application for one of our signature products, the Smart Pyramid™/Compas™ system. Brian started this project at the end of October and met a deadline of year end. I met Brian at a national meeting of the profession. His past experience in coding and reimbursement, documentation, and code applications was intriguing. He agreed to lead the code application project for Orthocare Innovations and quickly assembling key researchers and the necessary documentation. He put forth a timeline to comply with the parameters of the application, communicated this to our team, and held effective meetings. During the process he also assisted our technical and sales teams in closing key sales deals with some of the industry’s largest patient care facilities. Brian demonstrated an ability to take on an important project, assess the scope, and completed his portion ahead of his timeline. He also demonstrated an ability to work with a variety of technical staff from research scientists, sales, marketing and reimbursement areas. His knowledge, skills and abilities, and reputation gained from years in the Orthotic and Prosthetic profession were invaluable to us. I can confidently recommend his services and would not hesitate to call on him again.
In 2010, my group hired Brian as a consultant for a Medicare code application. We derived great benefit from his tremendous experience in the field, and I personally enjoyed working directly with Brian--he is personable, rigorous about deadlines, and a pleasure to collaborate with.
Brian is a visionary. In a business world filled with consultants who claim to be experts, Brian sets himself apart by having the hard-won experiences of personal success. Moreover, Brian is capable of quickly assessing an organization's needs, recommending a strategy and generating the energy needed to convert recommendations into results. I have personally benefitted from Brian's sage advice and his deep expertise related to the orthotic and prosthetic industry. I have witnessed first-hand the consequences when others have ignored the same advice. As a past president of the industry trade association, Brian knows the majority of players in the O&P healthcare network as well as many of the policy-making personnel who shape the compliance arena. If you are considering M&A, Business Process Optimization, Strategic Planning or are coping with compliance related challenge you really must call Brian as your 1st step forward.
Brian is an expereinced medical devices pro. He has a deep and clear understanding not only of Medicare reimbursement and coding, but of the emerging trends that face our industry. If you are developing or launching a product into the space, don't attempt to navigate without Brian's help. You'll be glad to have him on your team.
I have worked with Brian for the last two years and have found him to have the highest ethical standards, be open-minded and a critical thinker. Brian brought the operators perspective to BridgePoint, a much needed asset, but more than that, he brought a long history of success in O&P with a new vision of the industry's future. This combination makes Brian unique in the O&P industry, an appreciation of the past but a driving need to change as the entire health care sector comes under increasing pressure. He is a quick study to new ideas and the application of technologies which bode well for his adaptability going forward. Brian is a friend first and a colleague second..
Have personally worked with Brian as a colleague on a national trade association board: American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association. When I was President of this board in 2000, Mr. Gustin was a director. He was always well prepared for meeting and agenda items, was knowledgeable and stimulated great discussion. His contirbutions led to his continued service on this board, long after I rotated off the board. He is now the current President of the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association. I have also worked with Mr. Gustin as a Business Partner in his capacity of Chief Clinical Officer at BridgePoint Medical, LLC. I have recommended companies for he and his company to pursue for possible purchase. I have discussed purchase and company valuation techniques and formulas for my own purposes in selling my part of a business to my business partner. I find Mr. Gustin to be very knowledgeable, straight forward, and helpful in all my contacts with him. He has a successful track record of owning, selling, managing, and acquiring businesses within the prosthetic and orthotic profession and industry. His contributions to the profession and industry are remarkable, making him a true leader in the profession and industry.
